Have you ever been in a crowd where no one knows you – or even notices you? I have had that experience. When there are approximately 1 million blogs on the internet, how will the words of one attract a following? By being relevant, cool, up-to-date, graphic, loud, innovative, attract attention in 3 seconds or less, have SEO…you name it. There are people who build their careers around getting people to read your “stuff”. Blogging is competing in a world of words. So, who will notice your words in a world clamoring for attention?
Consider the lilies – they do not toil or spin. Or really move, for that matter. They don’t make a sound. They don’t grab your attention by popping up on the screen. Observing a lily only evokes a pause, maybe an awe at the brilliant color and display of beauty, a moment of contemplation. It doesn’t demand you to do anything, click anywhere, fill out a form or buy a product. In fact, this beautiful flower asks for nothing, but gets our attention anyway. So what makes us pay attention to a lily?
Visual beauty. That’s it. God has graciously clothed the lily with complete and uninterrupted beauty. I do not think that most people, in their heart of hearts, believe that they are innately beautiful like the lilies. So – we put it on. Get the great outfit, hairstyle, makeup, look, attitude, iPhone, blog, branding statement, degree, car, job, house, boat! Whatever you’re striving to get today. And you may be getting it. But who is noticing?
God has another way. Will he not much more clothe you (o you of little faith)? When God clothes you with His “beyond this world” provision, others will take notice. Consider the lilies.
